This is a cancellation - so cancellation compensation (due to A380 being in the sick bay) and a downgrade reimbursement (not compensation). You can claim both, see the wiki for working out the Mennen's formula for downgrades.
Thanks all for the excellent words of wisdom. I've now heard back from BA offering £260/flight for the cancellation as advised by the experts here. However, they are advising me that the downgrade compensation needs to be taken up w AA which was the ticketing carrier (something I neglected to mention as thought the operating carrier was all important). Is this correct? There wasn't any clarity from the opening pinned posts. Thanks again for this great resource!!
