The B748s require a lot of maintenance at the moment; it may just be faster to have the pax disembark at an outside position near the LH hangars and then take the plane "next door".
Happened to me last year, a 748, crew unable to turn off lights in cabin during an overnight flight. Got a car to take me to the terminal but then had to wait something like an hour for my bags.
