I'm sure there are lots of good operational reasons for these awkwardly timed flights, but surely a bunch of people (especially business travellers) are put off by these times. A few hours later both ways would make a lot more sense for everyone.
Wishing you a good journey and sounds like the times are inconvenient for you, but not enough of a deal killer when you or your travel agent/companion booked these flights? There are I am sure plenty of other carriers with alternative timings and one-stop connections.
