I like the idea about mass refusal to take off obviously conforming shoes and triggering secondary screening. But don't forget to ask for new gloves.
I was very polite (yet firm) when speaking with the screeners that I encountered in TPA. They were (obviously) annoyed, but tried to keep it professional.
I have a feeling it would take a smart-a** comment or two for a screener to determine that you were "interfering". I still think I was chosen for secondary because I mentioned I had worn the shoes through before.
