Yes you need to. In the other direction, it works like a charm. My son had a JL booking inbound, for the return PR with AA codeshare and AS back to SEA (routing SEA-NRT-MNL-HND-DFW-SEA). With the JL PNR he was able to do online check-in on the PR site and got all 3 boarding passes until SEA. Bags are tagged through of course (with a pick-up in DFW).
