Just returned from a stay at the Rosewood HK. Had product is incredible. Five years later and everything still seems brand new, minus the hairline scratches on the chrome sinks, but that is unavoidable and unreasonable to re-polish a hammered sink after every guest. Breakfast was good, but nowhere near as incredible as the view and the hard product (what is?). Service is good as well, like one would expect, but it only gets so personable. The biggest drawback is that the hotel is flooded with mainland Chinese tourists and I would say that is the biggest turn off. When I talked to some of the staff at the MOHK (where we stayed before the Rosewood), some of them say mainlanders say that "if you go to HK and not stay at the Rosewood, you did not go to HK at all". And this reflects accurately and pervasively in the clientele.

When we checked in at 4pm, the lobby and outdoors area is packed with hordes of mainland tourists. Check in had lines of folks all screaming and laughing loudly in Mandarin. That coupled with the distance to get to the MTR (actual MTR platform) makes this a big turn off. If it is your first time in HK, stay in TST and get the touristy stuff done, although some would still argue against staying in TST. However, I personally will not be returning to this hotel unless all I want to do is sit in my room and eat room service for the duration of the stay. Hopefully this hotel will draw some mainland tourists away from the Regent and make the Regent a classier property. Otherwise I will stick with the island side.
