Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck NY is interesting. The rooms vary from luxurious to spartan (as do the prices), but the place has great atmosphere and is historic (George Washington really did sleep there). Also pretty good food and there is a nice artists community in Rhinebeck. Perhaps not as luxurious as you might like (only their best room is really that; the Delamater, same owners and location, is more consistent in room quality), however it is a great location and overall experience. Probably about 3 hours drive from you.
