Turkish and Aegean have been big promoters of status matches in recent years, both are STAR airlines. I believe TK is recruiting new members, there's a comprehensive thread in Turkish forum
TK status match (2017 onwards). No idea if Aegean has a current match programme, but no harm in asking.
Turkish got much less attractive this year when it seriously devalued its award structure. But its Elite+ status holds interest with two upgrade vouchers each year, allowing a shift to the forward cabin on a round trip anywhere via Istanbul. There are, of course, conditions to the upgrade which act as restrictions on popular routes - but with Melbourne a new destination, it's a popular perk.
Aegean's popularity is because of the very low hurdles to maintaining status -though there is a requirement to fly some Aegean sectors to get the lower level hurdles.
The US majors sometimes recruit, but they often use "challenges" where you need to satisfy a requirement to make a certain number of flights with them.
