Yeah I read it the same way - once you've reached the max reward, it'll automatically be redeemed. So once you've earned that 100,000 mile bonus, they will apply it at that time, rather than making you want until the end of the 365 days.
If you don't reach 100k, they'll give you whatever you earned at the end of the 365.
