To elaborate on the responses you've already received above, codeshare flights can indeed be be confusing in terms of which airline's policies apply to what. Here's an article on that topic I found useful:

When it comes to baggage fees, the
general rule for future reference is that the policies (meaning the fees, and the exceptions to those fees) are those of the
operating carrier. And the way that you tell that a flight is a codeshare is to look for that language "operated by" in the flight details on the website where you make the ticket purchase.
I've attached a screenshot from Expedia below to illustrate, using your cities but on a random date. If you are booking quickly and looking at lots of flights it can be easy to overlook this information at the time of booking, but you should always double check your ticket as soon as it has been purchased to be sure the flights are operated by the carriers you were expecting. If not and you've purchased your ticket on a US-based site, you will generally have 24 hours to cancel free of charge.
In terms of the Amex benefit not applying to codeshare flights, this also is fairly typical of airline co-branded credit cards. E.g, the fact that I have a Chase United card does not give me free baggage when I fly a United codeshare flight that is operated by Air Canada.
