It took me two transfers to get me to my hotel in Entseppee ( hope I spelled it right).
on the return I took a taxi for $ 5.00 to the metro and then 75 cents to the airport. Which I recommend. Keep in mind that the train fills up quickly and you ma be standing for the 35 km ride

Esentepe is walking distance from the Gayrettepe metro station so no transfer is required at all, it's about a 400-500m walk underground and a 400-500m overground to access to Esentepe from the Gayrettepe U1/M11 metro station.

On other news, there are rumors that the Ministry of Transportation would open the Airport - Halkalı section before the local elections which is two weeks later.
At the time of this post, there is no published opening date and I haven't seen any publicity about opening events on billboards in Istanbul, however, if this is true, we should be knowing the answer within the upcoming days.
