You can do it both ways on VS metal. DL metal flights are the ones that are limited to ex-UK/ex-FR/ex-Ghana flights (where DL does not offer online seat upgrades due to additional APD taxes). You can check VS website for award availability (G class) on flights to see if eligible for MUAs as that is class MUAs upgrade into.
