Like most destination fees, it provides little of value beyond forcing you to spend spend at bar/restaurant (and hotel gets to wiggle out of providing points on this spend). The bar is nice and all but the prices are ridiculous even by NYC standards. Really hoping a class action lawsuit takes these destination fees out one day.
Blame American consumer laws. If they had laws that meant you had to show the full price including taxes and fees this nonsense would end sooner than you think.
