They are fairly strict with the carry on especially on long hauls. I am a G with them and even flying business they would weigh my carry on. Not my laptop bag. EVA is usually extremely full on the long hauls. It is advisable to check in your luggage, especially a large back pack or if they take it from the Gate then it is more hassle for you. You can take two pieces of checked luggage at 23kgs free of charge anyway. EVA is very good with their baggage service.
