I've done this multiple times on AF. Have to book by phone. The 1st and 2nd seats need to be on one booking. No miles or XP for the extra seat. Also AF can only do this on flights on AF metal. They cannot book a 2nd seat on an AF marketed, XK metal flight, for ex. you'd have to book that through XK.

I've already got a PNR, and it appears they're going to split it and then add an extra seat. Looks like it should be resolved soon.
