Is there a direct entry from the Headhouse tower to the convention center? I'm going to a week-long convention in the summer and it seems like there are many choices for hotels near the convention center, though the fact that the convention center takes up 4 city blocks means that it's actually somewhat difficult to choose.
I can't remember if it's connected to the Headhouse tower but I know I stayed in there 2 years ago and was able to walk from our room in Heed House, through the hotel and above street walkway to get into the convention center. You enter at the same level as the turnstiles above street level (in a really pretty entrance, almost Art Deco throwback style I might say)
