US market does get hit harder due to how many CC miles are dished out, but almost £1k for an ex-UK redemption is very punchy, especially on a route like JFK with more competition and choices. It wasn't that long ago that we were paying closer to £500 for UC redemptions.
YQ isn't a "let's charge more for awards" thing. It's a "let's move fares up or down across the board" tool.

If YQ is higher today, it's because air fares are higher today. (maybe you see more inventory in cheaper fare buckets but that's it)

It's as irrelevant to say "I used to pay £500 for TATL flights" as it is to say "I used to pay $10,000 for a Bitcoin"
