£1k for economy from LHR-JFK or vv is well above regular economy pricing, more like flying UC for closer to PE pricing.

Or you could have the system that was there previously, which was in between the two. US market does get hit harder due to how many CC miles are dished out, but almost £1k for an ex-UK redemption is very punchy, especially on a route like JFK with more competition and choices. It wasn't that long ago that we were paying closer to £500 for UC redemptions.
