Most of the time the delay will be out of (or claimed to be out of) AA's control so now you're on your own for lodging and food. Yes, if AA gives you a warning about the short connection time, which AA does, then you accept the risk that everything must go right on schedule for you to make that connection. Try that at DFW, CLT or MIA.
