I much preferred having a leisurely lunch and then having something light before landing.
I think overall it’s a win for us with more (better quality/substantial) options to choose from, in the past the light options can be pretty dismal (hot dogs, afternoon tea, some sort of bland sandwiches) where as the addition of the breakfast section allows you to mix/match more of whatever you want whenever you want….gotta make use of that DOD option!
FAs will obviously try and diverge you towards a common set of meal time for their own benefit (post take off and before landing) but in the past I never had any issues setting my own meal times and switching items/mix match for whatever and however I want it…you just gotta be straight to the point that you want your meals a certain way.
This is more a win for the overnight exUK/EU flights as often times I don’t feel like eating for a 9pm departure and rather go straight to bed and have breakfast before landing - the older menu doesn’t really allow you to do this due to the lack of breakfast options where as now you can choose to dine after take off or just do breakfast before landing or do both, catering to more dining scenarios/preferences - overall an improved experience for us.
The thing with QR dining is that you need to say out loud exactly how you want it otherwise FAs won’t proactively ask and just assume you want the “standard” flow.
