Airfares across the Atlantic still seem to be at record high prices for spring/summer. I'm trying to help some friends/family get from the US East Coast to Europe in May, and the CHEAPEST fares on major airlines are $850+ -- and most of these charge extra for checked bags and, sometimes, seat assignments. Like I'm looking at $1100 for a WAS-MAD flight. There are no bargains. Even the ultra low cost airlines that charge for everything including carry-ons look expensive.
