You have a couple of options.

You can have a friend/colleague who does have status and does have Plus Points upgrade you. Or you can upgrade with miles (yours or someone elses). Or you can wait for UAs revenue management machine to pepper you with upgrade options right up until departure.

Obviously its going to depend on the routing, and when you are traveling.
I didn't purchase it yet Its for work travel (routing AMS-LAS) and will have to be purchased through my job's travel site rather than my United account. I'm able to purchase a ticket in Premium Plus but not Polaris (due to costs). I did a flight search using the travel site and I can see the ticket is fare class A in Premium Plus. Unfortunately I dont have any friends with Plus Points, so I think my only option is either a MileagePlus upgrade or an upgrade option right before departure thought I'd prefer to secure the upgrade sooner than later.

As long as there is inventory and since its a fare class A ticket, will a MileagePlus upgrade option automatically be available? I feel like I've purchased tickets before but for whatever reason, a MileagePlus upgrade option never appeared. Though those tickets could have been a lower fare class, so I guess I'm just wondering if A will automatically get me the upgrade offer as long as there's availability.
