If you merge your new account with existing account yourself, I think your points will stop posting as HDFC will keep trying to post to the new account
I called Marriott India team and they said they have received similar queries and assured that the points will be posted to the old account after merging with the new account but keeping the Old account as primary. I will merge accounts this weekend and see how it plays out.
