Is this still the case? I am looking to get one but would like to use it mainly in 2025 which of course dates are not yet available now.

Yes, still true. The *A RTW ticket (which I’m using right now) allows 16 segments. You can change dates of them but there’s a fee for changing location.
Since my total trip takes 10 months, I planned my locations first. Then, confirmed dates for the first 4 months and added on the remaining flights on dummy days (e.g., Feb 2, then the next on Feb 4, then Feb 6, etc). Once I’d begun the trip and got closer to the latter half and planning was more firm, I contacted them by email and they quickly (less than 24h) rebooked to my requested dates. It’s been super easy - but it should be.
I’m using my stash of points and those accumulated by current travel expenditures to offset the lodging bills. Bought a lot of MMSmith cards (offer still happening) to get Globalist and then Hilton Aspire so most of our stays have included meals and upgrades. P2 is appreciating all the work I’ve been putting into the planning, which is nice. “When can we do this again?”
