Does Thai know that they have mobile boarding passes?
I recently flew BKK-KHH, booked directly on the Thai website, and used their online check in function in pretty much the same way as on any other airline in the past 10+ years, and got my mobile boarding pass. Great. Then when I got to the airport, most of the staff act as if they've never seen a mobile boarding pass before. I know that some are Thai staff and some are airport staff but I feel like it shouldn't be a surprise for any of them.
Scan it to get to security, the staff want to look at it to see if it is real, even though it scanned just fine and they didn't scrutinize any paper boarding passes.
Immigration was fine with it, like they had seen them before (although I'm not sure why they need it at all).
Taking the train to the new S gates, boarding pass gets checked again. The staff couldn't find the gate on it (it's right there under "Gate") and had to call a supervisor to find it.
While boarding, one of the gate agents didn't think it was real because they couldn't find my name on it. I pointed out that it's in big letters right below the 2D bar code. It scans just fine despite them saying it wouldn't. But then I had to wait for them to copy my name and seat number from it to a piece of paper that they had to save.
The flight attendant checking boarding passes didn't know where to look for my seat number. It's a single aisle plane so it doesn't really matter anyway.
On the return, OLCI, security, and immigration were all fine. But at the gate they paged me and told me that I couldn't use online check in. So they asked if I wanted a paper boarding pass, I said no (mostly out of curiosity), so they said the mobile one was fine then. It was EVA staff handling the flight, but this still doesn't make sense to me.
Literally every other airline that offers mobile boarding passes at online check in encourages you to use them when available. Staff at every other airline know what their mobile boarding passes look like. Staff at airlines' home airports know how to handle mobile boarding passes. Why not Thai? Or maybe, why does Thai even offer them in the first place if this is their attitude towards them? Or maybe it's just me and others have good experiences with it?
