Since this credit card spend is occurring anyway ("sunk cost"), one might as well get some benefits from it.
Sure, there is a lot of discussion in the FlyerTalk Credit Card forums about maximizing return on spend through AmEx Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, other specified credit cards, etc.
Small business owners often don't have time for complex or time-consuming credit card management and ongoing evaluation tasks. Also, it sounds as if the business has enough spend that earning UA Premier Gold in this way would not substantially detract from such other opportunities.
