From my perspective, the best use is for your most expensive rental. Phoenix to LA is an out of state drop which will incur a significant drop charge (unless you are driving back to Phoenix in the same rental). Pretty sure the free days won’t cover the drop but worth checking out. I once did a cross border rental and believe the drop charge was priced into the daily charge. In that scenario, the free day covered everything!
Review the options for your dates. Sometimes a higher category car is cheaper than a lower one or there’s minimal price difference. I have had that several times in the last six months.
Make sure your free day is valid on the class of car you want. There are some classes to which it won’t apply.
