Or perhaps one employee that is bad at check-ins? And, yes, as the restaurant was empty when I arrived, there was no reason not to eat there, and the service was friendly - they even delivered a bowl of syrup when I couldn't find it on the buffet and offered takeaway coffee.
On a recent stay, the first day we had an awesome proactive server. Second day, not so much and had to repeatedly ask for things.
Also never received an amenity at checkin.
One other point about breakfast: it seems like for some items, it is first come, first serve. For instance the Kouign
-Amann seems to go quick and once gone, it isn’t replenished. However there is plenty of other things to eat, so not a huge issue.
