I used the landside hotel a few months back when I had a few hours late at night / early morning between my incoming international flight and the outgoing domestic flight (independent tickets). I booked online - I must say the website is a bit wonky and it took several tries to get the information in, and I resorted to emailing the hotel all the details to double-check that everything was OK after going through the online process. I did not see any sign of the service
oliver2002 mentions (helping with luggage, etc.) anywhere while booking online nor later. Grabbed my bag and went out past baggage check to the large hall and then all the way to the side where there are lifts / stairs to get to the Niranta. Check-in was relatively smooth, although note that depending on the time of day there could be a bit of a line of people waiting to check in and out. The room was fine, totally adequate for a few hours' stay - smallish, 3*-4* level, no windows, single bed, adequate shower/bathroom facility, overall neat/clean. No other amenities in the room - I think they did not even have an electric kettle, no iron. I don't recall if they had an in-room safe, I think they did not. They had wifi but I didn't use it so can't comment on its quality. They offer breakfast in the morning, it was the usual combination of some baked goods, etc., nothing to write home about. After check-out I used the internal connecting route (up some stairs on the side) to get to the departures area without exiting the airport building. This I had to search for for a few minutes as there are no signs or clear indications - but any of the airport staff do know about it and can direct you.
Overall decent experience for a few hours' stay.
I did not exit the airport building during my stay, so I can't comment on the "secret entrance" that's supposed to allow Niranta guests to enter the airport even if their flight is more than 4 hours away (which would keep them from using the normal entrances).
do you recall if the rooms have windows at the landside hotel? For a 12 hours stay, would you say it’s an acceptable accommodation (comparing to Yotel IST or Oryx DOH transit hotels) or should we go to JW by the airport?
No windows in my room, and judging by the location in the middle of the terminal building I doubt any of the rooms have windows. Yes, it does make it feel a bit claustrophobic, but since all I wanted was to shower/change and try to catch a couple of hours of shut-eye, this was perfectly OK for me. Since you're leaving at 5pm, you have more of the day to spend there, so I don't know if you'll be driven nuts by feeling like you're trapped in a box all day and may appreciate seeing daylight some time. You could book your stay here but still plan to go out of the airport to get lunch in the city and get your dose of daylight that way. IMO not worth the additional $$ to pay for a stay at the JW, and the convenience of the Niranta being in the airport I think makes it beat the other nearby transit hotels.
