I don't think the OP is looking for compensation (I agree with you that comp. for cancellation is out of the question due to more than 14 days out). The OP is inquiring about the duty to rebook under comparable conditions and more specifically if he/she is able to buy a ticket with a different airline and claim reimbursement from RJ when RJ fails to offer an acceptable rebooking alternative. The OP was added that the flight suggested by RJ requires a transit visa which I my view doesn't make it under comparable or reasonable conditions, i.e. the OP can reject it. That being said, to purchase a ticket with another airline and seek reimbursement from RJ afterwards sounds like something that can easily turn out to be very time consuming and difficult, if possible at all, so it is a very risky approach IMO.
