Yes and Yes.

You can transfer to the PC through IrDa, but you will need to install the software.

I absolutely loved the series 5 and am disappointed there is nothing like it out nowadays, a real shame that Psion stopped making their own devices

There are a few things you'll need to know though; PsiWin only works through Com (serial) ports, so you might need to install the "IRComm" software from Microsoft to create a "virtual com port".
