Trying to select a seat either with the award ticker or revenue ticket is a nightmare on their website. OLCI is a joke and doesn’t work. The food onboard was near inedible. Their ‘speciality drinks’ (they have 2 kinds) were made with freeze dried powder or something because they tasted like a chemical test tube. The seats on both legs were fine though, but nothing special.

Stopover in PVG was insane. They couldn’t handle boarding passes printed with the bar code on the side (which is quite common I believe if for whatever reason you don’t have an electronic one) ; so half the incoming passengers (of several flights) had to stand in a separate line for 2 agents to check boarding passes in order to just go through the transfer terminal. And they did so really really slowly (probably took 45mins). And don’t think anyone got an electronic boarding pass, because no one had that around us (not even sure China Eastern supports such a innovative concept).

I don’t have experience with China Airlines, but will never fly China Eastern again if I can avoid it, award or otherwise.
WHen was your experience?
True that OLCI often do not work on CHinese airlines as they want to check documents at the airport, but my recent travels on China Eastern or China Southern were perfectly fine in terms of punctuality, seats, service and food..
