This is high on my wish list as well, since SAN is a focus city and LAX is a hub, it would make sense. However, I use UA and DL often for this routing and those e175s are very rarely booked more than 50-75% full. So I understand why AS may be fearful of running this flight, it has zero O/D pax traffic on it. As an ex-United 1K, we have watched UA go from almost hourly service to the 2-3 a day that run at the same times as the DL flights. They have even consistently run 737 equipment on it. Oh well…
AA used to run near hourly flights on SAN-LAX, as well. Used to be a combo of Saab turboprops and smaller RJs before they upgauged to larger RJs and reduced the frequency when they moved the flights from the commuter terminal to terminal 2. Before COVID ended the route they were down to only 3-4x daily. Even with AS’s expanded California network I can’t see them adding the route; there just isn’t much to get out of it as SAN has most of the routes offered at LAX on AS expect to NAS, right?
