It would be upgradable by an MVPG if inventory for the upgrade is available.
It is very common for some Y fares to be more expensive than the most discounted F fares (that will not be available at a time the Y fare is available). And people will make a bunch of posts in FT forums at “LOL stupid airline” and miss that they are essentially comparing apples and oranges.
