I am a NW Platinum Elite and run into the same initial roadblocks when I get exit row seating. When you talk to a CSR they in turn will always put you on hold to make a call in order to get the exit row seats.
I was very happy recently with the AS CSR I spoke to regarding a ticket in F that Mrs. TRVLRZ and I are on to PVR. I could not get pre-assigned seats through NW, spoke to a AS CSR and she very promptly helped us. She even went as far as telling me that 2 A&C are in her opinion the best seats on a 739, let me get those for you.
