Spent a few nights at Lindner Mallorca and thought I'd write an update. The property doesn't have its own thread and indeed there's been almost no discussion about it on FT, so I figured this thread is a good home for a review. Cliff's notes: The Mallorca property is the best Lindner I stayed at, and I mean this in a "doesn't need to be ashamed in the company of GH Bali or HR Maui" way rather than a "least bad among lousy hotels" way (such as comparing it to the Lindners in Vienna, Cologne, etc).

I had two roms for 5 nights, booked about half a year out, when the cheapest non-refundable rates rates were under €100. Wanted to keep it refundable, so sprung for a "Happy in Mallorca" package that runs about €130/nt and includes tapas/wine on arrival plus a 50 minute massage. Asked my concierge to apply a suite night award for an African Suite to the first room, plus GOH for the second room. When we arrived, we were checked in by a very friendly and chatty agent. Both rooms were upgraded to African Suites. For some reason, the agent couldn't see the "Happy in Mallorca" package, so asked me to return to the front desk the next morning to clarify with her colleague. She handed us vouchers for tapas/wine, which our rate included, but is also given as a welcome gift to Globalists. In addition, she gave us two €50 spa vouchers, which are given to paid suite bookings. And she informed us that our minibars would be free, refilled daily. I assumed that she was confused about paid rates vs. upgrades, so I went back to check with her colleague in the morning. He was adamant that per Hyatt rules, any inclusions listed in the room description are to be granted on upgrades, so he confirmed the minibar and €50 spa benefits. In addition, he saw the "Happy in Mallorca" rate inclusions and told me how to make spa reservations. As in other Lindners, they were very focused on the Glob water bottle; several staff told us (without any prompting) that they'd make sure to deliver them daily. Apparently this is not part of their regular processes, so "must give water to Globs" always seems to be on their minds.

The hotel consists of a main building and two annexes, which house the suites. It appeared from our floorplan that there were five African Suites in our building (#1), so I assume there are five more in the identical building #3. Plus 4 junior suites on our floor. So the upgrade odds look favorable, certainly in low season. Our suites faced the pool, others have a view of the golf course. There are two suite types -- 141, 144, 145 and 148 are slightly larger, but with a a lot of wasted space and only a small window in the bedroom; 140, in the middle of the building, is the clear winner in our opinion: lots of daylight and a much more charming layout. Large balcony with loungers and a small dining table. The suites are in good repair, beds comfortable. Ample supply of towels and bathrobes, so the only real area for improvement would be the dreadful Lindner toiletries.

Breakfast was good, with an egg station and small selection of hot items (sausages, baked beans, etc), waffle maker, and lots of cold cuts. I'd say a good 80% of Guests were German, so breakfast obviously caters to their tastes (which apparently also includes sparkling wine).

There were no dinner options in walking distance (not sure if that changes in high season), and what we ate in nearby Portals Nous (at Ritzi and Flanigan) was disappointing, so we had dinner at the hotel restaurant (Nico's Place) twice. On the first night, we used our wine/tapas coupons for appetizers. The "chef's choice" that showed up was weak (fried spring rolls and gyoza). The tapas on the menu were good (croquettes, tuna tartar, grilled octopus), and some of the main courses (surf&turf, duck breast) delicious, with the overall positive experience somewhat undermined by a fish soup that came with undercooked fish and seafood ravioli. I wouldn't hesitate having dinner here again, but don't think I'd go for half-board for a week (which judging from neighboring tables entitles one to order appetizer/main/desssert from the menu).

The "African" hotel design is a bit weird in the beginning, but grew on us. The hotel isn't located near the water, so one either has to drive to a public beach or stay at the pool (which may be crowded if the place is at full occupancy; certainly the number of German guests does not bode well for the odds of finding an unoccupied lounger after 6:30am). The location is ideal for exploring the island by car; a minute from exit 9 on Ma-1. We won't turn into frequent visitors of Mallorca (and certainly not in high season), but I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Lindner again. Of course the Globalist benefits are quite generous if one receives the suite upgrade and minibar/spa voucher, and for those without status it's worth mentioning that breakfast is included in all rates including points stays.
