We’re just finishing a five night stay as Diamond. Booked a Twin Bed room as it was the only available option at that time. A week later, all other room types were available again and I emailed them, that we’d gladly take a King Bed instead.

On the check-in date there were still all kind of rooms available and as our booking still showed a Twin Bed, I texted them via the app and got a “we don’t upgrade in advance, only during check-in” back. We arrived shortly after midnight only to find out that all King rooms were sold-out. We were offered an upgrade to a suite (not sure which one) for 100k Yen a night (!!) as a “special price”, which seemed odd. We therefore spent the first night in a Twin Bay View Room and changed the next day in a King Bay View Room. In retrospect I should’ve just changed the reservation myself, once rooms were available again but I honestly thought that it shouldn’t be an issue…

I’m surprised that the breakfast gets so many good reviews on here. Lobster seems to be the only special item, everything else was just average and ok quality. Many items seemed so random (who needs a taco station in Tokyo?!) and also badly executed (don’t offer foccacia if you don’t know how to make it - same goes for the tacos). It’s certainly not a bad breakfast but more in line what you get a good European hotel though not something I would expect from a Conrad in Asia/Japan.

Same goes for the evening spread at the Executive Lounge which seemed like the typical Hilton/Marriott spread in Europe and not something I would expect at a Conrad in Japan. It still puzzles me that it gets so crowded there. Why would anyone spend their time there and have mediocre food if there are so many great options in walking distance….?

Everything else: Superb. Rooms are great, views even better. Service (mostly) great, especially the bell boys downstairs. All in all, we’d probably not return given all other options around.
