My wife signed up for Pre-Check right before a trip we took (I was already signed up). She had to go through regular security on the way there since she hadn't received her KTN yet. But on the morning we were flying back home, TSA e-mailed us her KTN. So I added it in the Alaska app, checked in, and it worked no problem.
