Unless it has changed drastically since the St. Regis days, it is terrible. There is almost no way to get out to the edge of the reef, even at high tide, without damaging the reef. Which was mostly dead anyway, but nevertheless... And the ocean life was mostly nonexistent on the couple days I tried. I do feel the answer is somewhat relative to your snorkelling experience however: it is what you would expect for Hawaii or pacific Mexico. It is what it is. But it doesn't remotely compare to Indonesia or Thailand or the Maldives, etc.
