I agree. I'd much rather watch my own content (which I also have a huge backlog of) vs. finding something acceptable to watch. In addition, I don't have to watch ads or get interrupted by every PA announcement as well, and can use my BT headphones instead of being wired to the seat. I alternate depending on the trip - sometimes it is just my phone, other times it is my tablet or 2-in-1 laptop in tablet mode. Just need a good place to rest whatever device I am using, and I'm good.
I think the only people finding significant value in the PTV setup are those that don't regularly carry a device capable of having content on it - whether it be the older folks that aren't into tech, the businessperson who can't download stuff to their company device, or whatever.
