Thanks - that would seem to support the suggestion that the maximum stay limit of 12 months has to be triggered by flying the first sector. There is the caveat "unless otherwise provided in the applicable fare rules" but sadly I can't find any reference to maximum length of stay in the fare rules attached to my 'Manage Booking'.
