Your MGM account will never show your Platinum Bonvoy status. MGM apparently doesn’t care. It’s meaningless to MGM because as a loyal Bonvoy traveler you’re no different to MGM than some infrequent traveler who just booked a room on Expedia.
As you mentioned, you can not link Bonvoy to MGM at all (even though the reverse is available to MGM members with MGM status).
But even if you could link in some way, any elevated Bonvoy status level below Ambassador is pretty much meaningless at MGM properties. There’s no need to link memberships if there is no reciprocity on guest benefits.
As mentioned above, the two programs continue to run separately and in parallel with zero links (for Bonvoy members). It’s a half-baked deal between the two companies. And, IMHO, a dud for us Marriott members.
But, oh yeah, I might be able to stand in the slightly shorter line at check-in as my one-and-only thanks for my Marriott loyalty. But only after paying the significantly higher Bonvoy room rate, and being blocked from being able to add on MGM property extras like guaranteed early check in. Sweet. A different check-in line. #feelingvalued #bonvoyed
