This is already the case with concert tickets (stubhub shows all-in pricing) and car rentals. The add-on fees are still there but the people can shop based on the bottom line. In some ways this is also possible with airlines if you click "carry-on bag" as that usually eliminates the saver fares (though you still have to click through to see the preferred seating fees).

This is also coming to restaurants in CA.
Exactly this. There are all sorts of fees included in car rentals but we don't care - because they are forced to show them in every quote so all we look at is the total. This is what should be forced on every hotel. If we are forced to pay a fee - it should be disclosed in the search so we can see the bottom line without clicking through. Kudos California. Pass this law and end the chicanery.
