If hotels are forced to include the resort fees in initial price quotes on the "select room" screen" or better yet the available property list (plus on comparison sites like google, kayak and expedia) then consumers will be able to make an informed comparison without the need to click through every single property. It will fundamentally alter the pricing.
This is already the case with concert tickets (stubhub shows all-in pricing) and car rentals. The add-on fees are still there but the people can shop based on the bottom line. In some ways this is also possible with airlines if you click "carry-on bag" as that usually eliminates the saver fares (though you still have to click through to see the preferred seating fees).
This is also coming to restaurants in CA.
