Given its sold as one ticket they should check through to final destination. Lisbon-Azores is considered a domestic flight so upon arrival at LIS you'll need to clear passport control. In The Azores, your bag may either come out on a different reclaim belt. You'll also need to go through customs there.
BA may not be able to issue a boarding pass for SATA in which case you'll need to collect one at the transfer desk at Lisbon.
SATA isn't a member of Oneworld therefore standard baggage allowance will apply.
