The area is extremely crowded and noisy on NYE. The back of the hotel would be the worst place to be. The roads are closed, however people will be walking to and fro all night.
We've done the Rooftop party a few times when not staying in the hotel and waited until 1:30 or 2AM to leave because of the extensive crowds outside.
One workaround is to book the HR SYD and book an event at the PH. Guests of any event can watch from the location or the Boardwalk which the PH has leased for 99 years so is considered private. Only Rooftop guests, however, are allowed on L4. It's 10-15 mins walk between the two hotels.
