I haven't been to Japan since September 2019, but finally found some time to return this April. In the past I visited Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka a few times, and on the last trip did Hiroshima and Fukuoka. This time I want to visit Hokkaido (and catch the end of the sakura season). I will have 5, maybe 6, days to spend there starting on April 22. My plan so far is:
- April 22: Arrive from Tokyo via airplane around noon. Odori park, Sapporo TV tower, Sapporo Museum, Susukino.
- April 23: Mt Moiwa viewpoint, daytrip to Otaru.
- April 24: Travel to Noboribetsu, enjoy hot springs onsen.
- April 25: Explore Jigokudani Valley, Oyunuma Pond, etc.
- April 26: Travel to Hakodate. Goryokaku, Mt Hakodate, wharf, red brick warehouses.
- April 27: Hakodate morning market, then travel back to Tokyo.
Questions:
- Is this a good time allocation? Should I do one day in Noboribetsu and two in Hakodate? Am I trying to do too much or not enough in some areas?
- Would love to book a great sushi place somewhere during this trip - any suggestions on where and how to go about doing it ahead of time?
- Any additional places to see or things to do in the areas listed above?
- Getting back to Tokyo: better via airplane from HKD or a shinkansen? Flight time + getting to/from airports + time in airports will be about 3.4-4 hours it seems, shinkansen is 4h 15m + getting to/from stations, so about 5 hours.
