Not a bad deal to pay cash in this case. For my specific trip the lowest cash fare for the same flights on BA (in Y) GBP 151/$191 or in CE around $388. Another concern was that I really liked to keep the flexibility.
BTW I value AS miles at 1c/mile, though obviously you can get much better value for long-haul J (not so much on BA though due to the ridiculous fuel surcharge). And probably I would look more at the amount I was willing to pay vs. the actual price...
