AF would be A320 and 773 (config with F)
KL would be an EMB195 and A330
Thoughts?
I think AF offers a better hard product although with two young kids the KLM J seats probably aren’t that bad plus this is a daytime flight so sleep unlikely.
I would go for KLM.
In your situation, it's easier to have the 2-2 layout on the A330 and AMS is a little more compact and thus, easier to navigate with kids. The meltdown with AMS was a couple years ago and unless there are meterological conditions, AMS is generally a reliable bet for quick easy correspondances.
The 77Ws with the P config used on the CDG - IAD route are correct, but the product tends to show some wear and tear since the retrofits were done about a decade ago and the appareils themselves are about 20 years old.
