I usually just leave it in my bag and put it on when I'm going to sleep. I didn't even know there was a rule, nobody has ever bothered me.
The approval is at least in US a holdover. There was a time CPAP machine didn't have a FAA certification. Nowadays most CPAPs sold do.

Also battery used to be .ore a concern. Power goes out and with some older style full face masks, you could suffocate. Any modern mask shouldn't be an issue.
